LASD Parent Education Events

Once a month, LASD will host an “iLearn Parent Education” event at one of LASD schools.  Presentation content will be available at the website following each presentation.  All parents and community members welcome.

MVLA Parent Education Speaker Series

The MVLA Parent Education Speaker Series is excited to announce our speaker line-up for the 2019-2020 school year. Nationally and internationally recognized experts will join us to discuss a wide range of topics including exploring current issues in adolescent health and well-being; empowering youth to better manage technology choices in the age of distraction; creating a supportive environment for all children to thrive; enabling our kids with greater responsibility and control over their lives; examining the fundamental role of liberal arts education in our technology-dependent world; navigating sex and masculinity in todays hook-up culture; and fostering increased well-being through physical exercise and movement.

Common Sense Media

Common Sense Media is the leading independent nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids thrive in a world of media and technology. Common Sense Media reviews books, movies, TV shows, video games, apps, music, and websites and rates them in terms of age-appropriate educational content, positive messages/role models, and more for parents making media choices for their kids. Common Sense Media has also developed a set of ratings that are intended to gauge the educational value of videos, games, and apps.

My Digital Tat2

My Digital TAT2 provides workshops and seminars for students, parents, educators, health care providers, and business professionals. They work in school, clinical, and corporate settings, as well as at youth and community organizations. In addition, they provide keynotes, conference presentations, and speakers' panels.

Community Health Awareness Council (CHAC)

The Community Health Awareness Council (CHAC) is a nonprofit mental health services agency located in Mountain View, California. CHAC exists under a Joint Powers Agreement, and includes the local governments of Mountain View, Los Altos, and Los Altos Hills as well as the Mountain View Whisman School District, the Los Altos School District, and the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District. Each year CHAC serves more than 11,000 local youth and individuals at our clinic and at 33 school campuses. CHAC's programs address a variety of emotional problems affecting children, teens, adults and families. Many programs are designed to protect young people from high–risk behaviors such as alcohol or illicit drug abuse, violence, and premature sexual activity, while building personal assets such as school success, valuing diversity, maintaining good health, and the ability to delay gratification; all of which will help insure that they have the greatest chance for success in life.

Challenge Success

Challenge Success provides schools and families with the information and strategies they need to create a more balanced and academically fulfilling life for their kids. They work with teams of educators, parents, and students at schools to identify problems and implement best practices and policies in areas such as curriculum, assessment, homework, school schedule, and a healthy school climate. They provide support to parents by giving them the tools to help their children regain their balance, strengthen their sense of self, increase their motivation and critical thinking skills, and learn how to deal effectively with the inevitable challenges of life. And they conduct, collect, and synthesize research, so that the public can make informed decisions that will enable all children to thrive.

HEARD Alliance

The HEARD Alliance is located on the Peninsula in the San Francisco Bay Area. The HEARD Alliance’s mission is to increase collaboration amongst primary care, mental health and educational professionals, to enhance the community’s ability to promote well-being, to treat depression and related conditions and to prevent suicide in adolescents and young adults.

Girls Leadership

Girls Leadership equips girls with the skills to exercise the power of their voice. Girls Leadership works with girls, parents and caregivers, and educators to ensure lasting impact. Girls Leadership provides transformational programs to girls, their parents, and their educational communities.

Los Altos – Mountain View PTA Council

This PTA Council serves three school districts: Los Altos Elementary School District, Mountain View Los Altos High School District and Mountain View Whisman School District. It's part of the Sixth District, Santa Clara County, of the California State PTA, affiliated with the National PTA. This council is organized exclusively for the charitable, scientific, literary, or educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or corresponding Section of any future Federal tax code.

Youth Service Learning Opportunities

• City of Mountain View – Youth Advisory Committee: The City of Mountain View Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) was formed to increase the level of civic engagement of youth and to provide the YAC with an opportunity to work directly with the Council Youth Services Committee. The YAC is comprised of middle school and high school students that represent Mountain View teens in local government and have the opportunity to advise adults concerning teen issues. The Committee consists of fifteen members and nine members-at-large.
• City of Los Altos - Youth Commission: The Youth Commission advises the City Council on matters relating to teen and youth issues, including recreation interests, personal concerns, and the need for outreach services. 
• CSA Community Services Agency: For 60 years, Community Services Agency (CSA) has been providing vital social services for residents of Mountain View, Los Altos, and Los Altos Hills. It provides a safety net for all needed so that independence and self-sufficiency can be restored and maintained.
• Second Harvest Food Bank: Second Harvest is committed to doing whatever it takes to build a hunger-free community. That means distributing nutritious food to nearly every neighborhood in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, leveraging every available food resource, and collaborating with organizations and people who share our belief that hunger is unacceptable. Nutritious food is the foundation for a healthy, productive life.
• Youth Community Service (YCS): Youth Community Service engages young people from diverse mid-peninsula communities in meaningful service-based learning. YCS students build leadership and life skills, empathy for the needs of others, and a sense of connectedness, purpose and efficacy, while making a positive difference in the lives of those around them.
• E3 Youth Philanthropy Program: The E3 Youth Philanthropy Program brings together local high school students to help realize their vision for social change.E3 Youth Philanthropy seeks to educate, engage, and empower local youth to effect positive change in their local and global communities through service learning, leadership training, and grant-making activities.  E3 is one of three youth-oriented programs sponsored by the Los Altos Community Foundation.
