Art Docents

The Los Altos Art Docents are a dedicated group of trained volunteers, who teach art in a manner which expands and motivates the development of creativity and curiosity in the children of the Los Altos School District. Our program was founded in 1970 and has evolved into more than 50 distinct lessons across grades TK-6th. The Los Altos Art Docents are actively seeking new recruits to help us meet the demands of our ever-growing school district. No experience with teaching? No artistic talent? No problem – we will train you! Once trained, we ask our volunteers to commit to teach once a week in the classroom during the school year. Learn more about the Docent Training Program. If you don't have time to volunteer as an Art Docent, volunteer to help in your child's classroom when there is an Art Docent lesson being taught. All help is appreciated.

For more information, contact Art Docent Coordinator Kimberly Dickerson at (650) 947-1195.

Library

Parent volunteers help sort and check out books when their children's class visits the library. Sign-ups are usually available during Welcome Breakfast, which takes place in the Multi right after students start class on the first day of school. Come chat with Ms. Kim Guesman, our librarian, or email her with any inquiries.

Project Cornerstone

The Project Cornerstone program recruits trusted, caring adults to work directly with students in the classroom and role-model inclusive behavior on the playground. There are several ways to get involved:

  • Cornerstone Kids noontime activities take place during the lunch recess on the upper and lower grade playgrounds, typically on the fourth Friday of each month. This role is a one and a half hour commitment.
  • Volunteer to help with various Project Cornerstone activities throughout the year such as Parent Education opportunities, Spirit Week, etc.
  • Become an ABC volunteer!  We recruit parent readers for our Asset Building Champion (ABC) program in the first few weeks of every new school year. This year-long commitment requires 4-5 hours per month. Mandatory training meetings are held once a month.

Project Cornerstone is actively seeking more volunteers! Contact Amy Bankhead for more information.
