Great family volunteer opportunity! Their annual holiday toy drive is super popular with families and fill up fast. Lots of fun and an eye opening experience for kids. Families can sponsor a drive or sign up to help sort, wrap or shop for gifts at their warehouse. Kids and adults can act as elves by finding and sorting donated toys in a giant warehouse. Hope’s Corner serves a free breakfast and bag lunch every Saturday to hungry people at the corner of Hope and Mercy Streets in Mountain View. Families can sign up together to help hand out the food to over 200 people. This is a wonderful activity to do with your children on a Saturday morning!
InnVision Shelter Network helps homeless families and individuals return to permanent housing and self-sufficiency. IVSN allows kids to volunteer at some of their shelters. A fun way to give back is to get a few families together and host a meal for a shelter. Kids and parents and bring prepared food and serve the food. 10. The Almost Eden Garden Project in Palo Alto:
This organization grows quality organic produce for local organizations that provide meals and services for homeless and low-income families. They allow kids over 8 years old (with supervising parent) to help with gardening chores. For more information, please visit

11. Shoebox Project for Shelters:
A charitable initiative that collects small gifts that are packaged in shoeboxes, and distributes them to women in shelters just before the holidays. These shoeboxes brighten the holiday season and let the women (often mothers with young children) know they are special and not forgotten. You can help by making a shoebox. Drop off locations in Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Cupertino.

12. Random Acts of Kindness:
Encourage kids to perform good deeds. Parents are great role models and it’s fun to plan and carry them out as a family: Give up a parking spot to someone else, pay for someone’s lunch in a drive-thru or help your elderly neighbor with their groceries.
